You need a therapist you can feel comfortable with.
Many people avoid therapy because they’re uncomfortable talking about deeply personal subjects with a stranger. I can promise you that I’ve heard it all, and my goal is to offer a non-judgmental space where you can be yourself, talk openly, and always feel respected. Although the thought of therapy can be intimidating to many, I can say with certainty that no one has ever met me and then described me as “intimidating.” I will connect with you through humor, real talk, and always respecting your pronouns. My goal is that you walk away from each session with something new - a different way of looking at a problem, a new coping skill, or maybe a new sense of relief at talking through a difficult subject. Your life may be challenging, but I want you to feel like therapy is a time when someone is always glad to see you.
I’ve worked in a variety of environments and with all types of clients. Over the last few years, I’ve specialized in using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, a type of therapy originally designed to help people with personality disorders and those who use self-harm or suicidal ideation to manage emotions; I’ve found DBT to be extremely helpful to anyone who needs better ways of coping with a problem besides distracting themselves from it, though. Although I use treatment modalities like DBT, CBT, and ACT, all that means is that we'll pick some special tools to help you change your relationship with your emotions, thoughts, and priorities. You'll leave each session with a plan for how to use the hard work you did in the session in your real life.
In addition to being a licensed clinical social worker, I am also one of less than two dozen providers in the state of Maine certified by Postpartum Support International as a specialized perinatal mental health provider. This means I am uniquely skilled to help you manage the difficulties and life transitions of pregnancy, parenting, conception, surrogacy, and everything else involved. I want you to have space without shame or judgment to process your feelings, strengthen your bonding, and feel confident in your ability to parent. It’s okay to struggle, even with something you wanted. We’ll help you get through it and get back to where you want to be.
Outside of therapy, I love to fill my time with “all things string-related,” primarily knitting, sewing, embroidery, and cross stitch, weightlifting, reading, changing my hair color constantly, and exploring the world around me.
Bonus: I have a great dog, Victor, who will definitely be making guest appearances in the background during your session.
